QUEERSAUNA was an event conceived and organised by Kaya Lackner and Fiona Prohaska. It explored the future of queer life in rural areas such as the Salzkammergut.
The focus was on the floating sauna of the Plateau Blo project, developed by the project team Sabine Pollak (raum&designstrategien), Simone Barlian (artist and curator), and Sophie Netzer and Kerstin Reyer (artist collective raumarbeiterinnen).
The event provided a space for discussions about queer life in the countryside, led by students from the University of Art and Design Linz, an expert on queer spaces, and representatives from Salzkammerqueer. Accompanying artistic projects were presented, including ‘Uncover’ by Kaya Lackner and ‘Remain Unexplained’ by Robin Renner.
A queer art market and a coffee and cake sale rounded off the programme. QUEERSAUNA combined art, discourse, and community to open up new perspectives for queer life in rural regions and to rethink rural spaces as places of openness and diversity.
